Un attentato al funerale di un anziano tribale ha ucciso almeno 15 persone in una regione instabile su nord-ovest del Pakistan, la polizia dice.

L'esplosione ha avuto luogo in un villaggio vicino al confine afganonel Lower Dir, una zona che ha visto una notevole attività militantein passato.

Nessun gruppo ha detto che ha effettuato l'attacco.

Si arriva pochi giorni dopo che uomini armati ha assaltato un busdella scuola vicino alla città nord-occidentale di Peshawar, uccidendo sei.

A bomb attack at the funeral of a tribal elder has killed at least 15 people in a volatile region of north-west Pakistan, police say.

The blast took place in a village close to the Afghan border in Lower Dir, an area which has witnessed considerable militant activity in the past.

No group has said it carried out the attack.

It comes just days after gunmen ambushed a school bus near the north-western city of Peshawar, killing six.

Lower Dir borders the Swat valley where the Pakistani army in 2009 launched a massive operation to crack down on the Taliban.

Samarbagh, the district where the latest attack took place, is an area where locals have raised tribal volunteer militias, known as peace committees, to defend themselves against Taliban attacks.

The BBC's M Ilyas Khan in Islamabad says militants have launched a number of attacks in the area, and some locals are saying this latest bombing may be a reprisal for the tribal militia.

Funerals of tribal leaders in the north-west have been targeted by militants before.

In February 2009 at least 25 people died in a bomb attack at the funeral of a Shia Muslim cleric who had been gunned down just days earlier in the restive district of Dera Ismail Khan.
